CAM
The artist CAM was born in 1965, the ninth child of ten, son of a United States Air Force Master Sergeant. Interested in the arts, he never considered himself to be an artist, just creative "an artist is one who is known for their art". Though inspired by modern pop art in the early 1980's and experimenting with many different medias, he always found his works to be wanting. Settling with acrylic on illustration board for his hard-edged style he painted a series of six paintings (a study in color, form and content). Working from photos of live models each piece is a representation of a sensational moment from a dream state. By the fifth painting in the series he had refined his personal and philosophical style, yet he was not fully satisfied with the results, and looked towards screen-printing as a means to achieve his desired effect. This process too fell short of his ideal goals. During these years CAM, the owner and operator of a highly innovative design studio specializing in screen printed apparel, studied Graphic Design at the University of California, Davis. Adapting early computer design programs to work for screen-printing, he had finally found the means to create the art of his dreams. Unfortunately in the early 1990's there was no way to out put fine art from his virtual art tablet the computer. With the advent of Graham Nash's Iris, the first giclee printer, CAM knew technology was finally catching up with him. The artist this day finds himself a person who has bridged the gap between artistic expression and technology. He has worked a myriad of freelance, contract, and employed graphic arts projects, such as Webmaster and Chief Architect of this site, laughingface.com.
